European Framework projects

KnowEDM - Automated knowledge based EDM technology for integrated toolmaking and high precision components.

CRDM Research is part of a consortium that aims to achieve:-

• Automated calculation of EDM time Automated design and manufacture of EDM electrodes
• Integrated knowledge-based design review of mould tools.

The project, under Framework 6, is a Collective research programme, which commences in October 2006.

The FASTOOL project was successfully completed at the end of December 2005, with CRDM having demonstrated a "Lights out" toolroom capability. The SME and Research Directorate of the EU awarded FASTOOL the status of a "Model Project" and a promotional film was made of the project.
